This exquisite lightship basket clutch, handwoven by basket maker Dave Brown in an elegant half-moon style, features a striking prehistoric woolly mammoth ivory plaque set against beautiful ebony wood, adorned with contemporary scrimshaw by local artist and native Morgan Sayle. The basket is lined with black velour, complete with a side pocket for convenient storage of your belongings. A secure closure is provided by a mammoth ivory peg.
The scrimshaw on the front showcases a humpback whale, one of the most frequently sighted whale species off the south shores of Nantucket Island. Executed in a stunning traditional style with black and white ink, this piece is additionally signed by the artist and dated with the year.
