This exquisite lightship crossbody basket , handwoven by local basket maker Chin Manasmontri in a unique round shape, features a round prehistoric woolly mammoth ivory plaque set against a beautiful oak wood, adorned with contemporary scrimshaw by artist David Smith. This basket comes with an attached tan leather braided strap and is lined with a green velour insert, complete with a side pocket for convenient storage of your belongings. A secure closure is provided by a mammoth ivory peg. The basket is also signed and dated by the basket maker on the backside.
The scrimshaw on the front depicts the Nantucket rainbow fleet gracefully sailing around Nantucket's iconic lighthouse, Brant Point, featuring four catboats in vibrant colors: Orange, Red, Yellow, and Green.
